Fun times in the Snow

Yesterday Matthew and I traveled to Boring, OR to visit my Aunt Bonnie, Uncle Jim and my wonderful cousins. We played in the snow, drank hot apple cider, sang Christmas songs, had a wonderful dinner, and of course we can't get together without goofing around!!! We almost got stuck there and made it home just before the freezing rain hit. We had so much fun!!! Thank you Scmitt's for a wonderful day.

So this happens to be the very first chicken I have ever held. Her name is Rosie and she is a very sweet chicken. I should mention that my Aunt and Uncle live on a lot of land and they have lots of chickens, ducks, a rabbit, two angora goats, three cats and a snake. Quite the farm :-)

Best Husband on Earth!!!

So picture this. 6:30 in the morning. The cell phone rings then the home phone rings. My work called this morning to see if I could come in. Some of their other scrubs were having trouble getting to the hospital due to icy roads and bad traffic. I say, " Sure I'll come in, we just have to put the chains on the car and I'll be on my way."

6:33- Me, " Ummm, honey? Work just called and they need me to come in this morning. Can you help me put the chains on the car?" some trepidation in my voice. I hate waking him up.
Matt- "What is going on?" in a very sleepy voice
Me- " I need to go to work today and I need help putting on the chains." in a very happy voice
Matt- "OK, I'll be out in a second." still in a very sleepy voice
Me-" While you wake up I'm going to take a quick shower."
Matt- "I'll meet you in the garage."

My wonderful husband go out of bed early and put the chains on my car for me this morning. And he put half of them on without his contacts in :-).

Thank you Matthew for being the Best Husband Ever!!!!

Another Term Bites The Dust

Well today I completed my fourth term of nursing school. Today also happens to be my 26th birthday!!! Yes, you heard right, I did have a final on my birthday but that has happened at least three times now. I can't help the fact that I was born during college finals week. There is a silver lining however. This will be the last time I ever take a final on my birthday. This is due to the fact that I graduate in June (Lord willing) with a degree in Nursing! In a way, I am really excited to be almost done with school. However, I really love learning and getting to experience new things. For this reason I get kinda sad about the fact that my college days are almost over.

Here are just a few of the things I learned how to do this past term:
-NT and trach suctioning
-Blood product administration
-Caring for a patient with a chest tube
-Recognizing common cardiac dysrrhythmias
-Caring for a patient on a ventilator and what all those settings mean
-Central line care
-Focused neuro exam
-Newborn, infant and pediatric care
-This list could really go on forever :-)

Here are a few of the types of patients I've cared for this term:
-Trach patients
-Post Craniotomy patients
-Seizure patients
-ER trauma patients
-Post-heart attack patient
-Labor patient
-Newborn
These are a few of the types of patients I've had the pleasure of working with. I really, really love nursing and want to say a big thank you to all of you out there who have supported and encouraged me through this process. Two more term left to go!!!
