Friends, Food, Fellowship= FUN!!!

This past weekend, the Gault's and the Sumetz headed up to Detroit Lake for some fun and adventure. We arrived on Friday night and started off the weekend with some chicken enchiladas and then headed outside to the "fire pit" for some fellowship and s'more making.

It was a perfect fire for roasting those marshmallows

We also played a lot of games. Seth and Natalie brought up a new game which was pretty funny. After we got the rules straightened out the game was made a little easier.
Have to play some Settler's :-)
Nat was the winner!!! Way to go Natalie.
I played Risk for the first time as well. We didn't have time to finish the game but it was entertaining.
Breakfast of pancakes and bacon on Saturday morning
Got to get a shot of McKinley
The lake is drained every fall so that any flood waters which might occur during the winter and spring have somewhere to collect. It sure is creepy to see the lake so low.
Seth and Matt would be about 8 feet underwater in the summer time here.

We headed out to the island (which isn't an island when they drop the lake). There was still a bit of snow on the ground.
I would say this sign is pretty accurate :-)
Nat and I walking back to the cabin
Seth and the Potato Gun
This shot is blurry, but the potato gun was not working and the boys were trying to get the pipe pieces apart using various means. They never did get it apart so now potatoes were airborne last Saturday
When Matthew and I woke up Sunday morning we found a dusting of snow on the ground. It didn't cover the road but it sure was pretty to look at.

Our Fabulous Day at the Beach

So Friday night Matthew and I decided that a day trip to the beach would be a nice little getaway. Last week was pretty emotionally draining for me (working downtown with the homeless) and I really needed to get away and relax. We headed to the tiny town of Oceanside. Neither one of us had ever been there before and we were in for a treat. The beach is just beautiful. The tide was out so we did some rock climbing and found two other really great beaches to explore. Of course I took my camera to archive the day's events, but I forgot to charge it up. I was really disappointed it wasn't working :-(.

From Oceanside we headed to the west side of Tillamook bay and had lunch on the beach. We then headed down a little dirt road and walked along the tillamook dike. We had a good little hike. I should also mention that the weather was absolutely fabulous. Not a cloud in the sky and warm. Really warm!!!! I should have taken a short sleeve shirt. I was roasting all day long :-).

Next we headed to the tillamook cheese factory and got some free cheese samples. Then we were off to Cannon Beach to watch the sunset. It was a great day and I am so lucky to have been able to spend it with my best friend, my husband :-)!!!

Schmitt Cousin Night

My cousin's are all very close and we love to get together and have fun. Last night we all got together for a night of junk food eating, Wii playing, and laughing to I Love Lucy Episodes. Here are some photos to prove we all had a great time!!! Unfortunately there were four cousins who couldn't be there and we really missed you all (Nick, Evie, Ansu and Sata).Getting the grub ready
My oldest Cousin Katy had the first baby out of us cousin's. He was born August 31st and he sure is a cute little guys. Just look at those chubby cheeks.
Tonya and Jake. She keeps asking me when she will have a nephew to hold? It's alway a nephew. She never asks for a niece. I wonder why?
Rachel and Jacob. He sure was passed around a lot last night.

Everyone was very intense playing Mario Cart. Look at Matthew's face. Need I say more.

My friend Hannah and I threw a baby shower for Stacey on Saturday. She got a bunch of great stuff for the baby and the baby's room. Thanks for having a baby my friend :-).

Fun times with the Marsons

Our good friends, Jon and Stacey came over the other night for dinner and games. We almost always play Settler's of Catan (Cities and Knights version) and this time was no exception.

Matthew went shopping with me and found a beef rib roast for less than three dollars a pound. He cooked it up in the oven and let me tell you, it was SOOOO yummy!!! We also had mashed potatoes, gravy and a great salad. I took a picture of it but the photo didn't turn out to appetizing looking so I left it out. It was one great dinner and we enjoyed sharing it with our friends!

Stacey was the grand winner of our Settler game. Excellent job my friend!!! At least one of us girls won. It is usually one of our husband's who win.
